Bilt added Amtrak Guest Rewards as a transfer partner on September 23, 2026. Two Bilt Points get you one Amtrak point, and the route is live in PointBagel now. It's a real option, but based on our valuations it usually isn't a great use of Bilt Points.
What an Amtrak point is actually worth
Amtrak doesn't have an award chart. The points price of a ticket follows its cash fare, and we wanted to know how tightly, so on September 23 we priced 25 trips ourselves on 13 routes, in coach, business, Acela First and sleeper rooms. Every one came out to the fare times 37.5: a $25 Northeast Regional coach seat was 938 points, a $243 Acela First seat was 9,113, and a $680 roomette on the Coast Starlight was 25,500.
That's about 2.67 cents per Amtrak point, whichever train or class you book. We use a slightly conservative 2.6 cents. Bilt converts at 2 to 1, which makes a Bilt Point sent to Amtrak worth about 1.3 cents.
For comparison, our default value for a Bilt Point is 2.49 cents, and a Bilt Point spent through Bilt's own travel portal gets you 1.25 cents. So Amtrak lands just above the portal and at roughly half of what we think the points are worth. In dollars: 10,000 Bilt Points become 5,000 Amtrak points, enough for a fare of up to $133. The same 10,000 points are worth about $249 at our default Bilt value.
Why our Bilt number didn't change
A new transfer partner usually moves our value for that bank's points a little. This one didn't, because it isn't a great redemption. Our Bilt value comes from what Bilt Points are worth on airline and hotel awards. An Amtrak transfer works out to about 1.3 cents a point, barely above the 1.25 cents Bilt's own travel portal already gets you, so it doesn't add anything to that number. Bilt stays at 2.49 cents, and Amtrak shows up in the transfer list alongside Bilt's other 24 partners.
That's also why PointBagel won't recommend Amtrak as your best Bilt transfer. We still show the route and what it's worth, so you can make the call yourself.
When it's worth doing anyway
Every Amtrak point buys the same amount of fare, so which train you book doesn't change the value. The choice comes down to whether you have a better use lined up for your Bilt Points.
Say you were going to buy a Northeast Corridor ticket with cash and you don't have an airline or hotel award in mind. Using Bilt Points for it saves you that cash, even though it's below our Bilt value. It also makes sense when you already hold some Amtrak points and you're a few thousand short of a trip. Reward travel starts at 400 points, so a small transfer can close the gap.
If you're saving up for a Hyatt stay or a business class seat, keep your Bilt Points for that. Those are the redemptions our Bilt value comes from, and Amtrak is a poor substitute.
Before you transfer
Bilt's minimum is 2,000 points if you're Blue status and 1,000 if you're Silver, Gold or Platinum, and transfers go in 1,000-point steps. Most arrive right away, but Bilt asks you to allow up to 48 hours. They're also final: "Once points are transferred, they cannot be reversed." Price the trip in Amtrak points before you move anything.
On the Amtrak side, you'll need to link your Guest Rewards account to Bilt before your first transfer. Points can't be used for Amtrak's 7000-series Thruway services or the Canadian portion of trips run jointly with VIA Rail Canada.
Amtrak points expire after 24 months without activity, unless you have an Amtrak Guest Rewards credit card, in which case they don't expire while the card account is open. Amtrak lists "Buy, gift or transfer points" as one way to keep an account active. It doesn't name Bilt, so we'd expect a Bilt transfer to count, but we can't promise it.
How we got these numbers

The 2.6-cent value is ours. We priced the 25 trips on amtrak.com on September 23, signed in to a Guest Rewards account because points prices only show when you're signed in: one adult, one way, two travel dates per route.
